Individual Therapy
I provide individual psychological therapy through scheduled video appointments to adults (aged 18 years and above) located Australia-wide (but excluding the Blue Mountains region of NSW). As a clinical psychologist in private practice, I help people to deal with a wide range of issues. My education, training and experience equips me to help people understand and overcome patterns of obsessional thinking and anxious avoidance, including issues arising from questions about meaning and mortality. My first internship as a provisional psychologist, over ten years ago, was in an anxiety clinic. And my interest in existential concerns goes back further to my personal and academic pursuit of Philosophy -- an area in which I eventually completed a PhD. As a trained couples therapist, I have an inside view of the complexities of contemporary relationships and many ways in which people misunderstand each other and themselves. I believe this background equips me equally well to assist 'over-thinkers' to better understand and relate both to their own minds, and to the other people in their lives.
Many of my clients value a conversational approach to therapy through a process of guided discovery that allows them to talk through difficult emotional experiences or troubling thoughts. At the same time, where relevant to your needs, I seek to apply insights and tools from a range of cognitive-behavioural therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Exposure Therapy, and Schema Therapy, helping you to understand and work through your particular personal challenges rather than applying fixed protocols. With anxiety specifically, that usually means understanding what it's protecting or pointing to, and then summoning the courage to live not just reducing symptoms. With existential questions, it means actually exploring their implications for your life and choices, rather than treating them as merely abstract curiosities.
