For GPs and Referrers

Thank you for considering a referral. I'm a clinical psychologist (AHPRA PSY0001893291) providing telehealth therapy by video to adults (18+) and couples anywhere in Australia, except the Blue Mountains region of NSW. I'm currently accepting new clients.

Who I see

• generalised anxiety and constant worry

• health anxiety

• social anxiety

• panic attacks and panic disorder

• obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), including obsessional doubt

• overthinking, rumination and questions of meaning and direction

• relationship difficulties, including couples therapy (Gottman Method Level 3; Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy)

I don't provide crisis or after-hours support, ADHD assessments, or reports for legal proceedings or Disability Support Pension applications.

How to refer

Please address the referral letter to Dr Russell Downham, Clinical Psychologist, and email it with the Mental Health Treatment Plan to hello@wiserselfpsychology.com.au. A plan on its own is not a referral. Since 1 November 2025, the plan and referral for Better Access sessions need to come from the patient's usual GP or MyMedicare practice.

Please also ask your patient to send a short enquiry through my website so I can arrange a first session. I usually reply within two working days.

Fees and reporting

Sessions are $270 for one hour. With a Mental Health Treatment Plan, the Medicare rebate is $149.05, leaving a gap of $120.95. Couples therapy isn't covered by Medicare. I send you a written report at the end of the initial course of treatment, and again at the end of any further course.

Availability

Monday mornings, Wednesday afternoons and evenings, and alternate Saturday mornings, all by video.
